The Hope Wall Project

Picture

All are invited to participate in a collaborative project of hope and support for our children.

The concept is simple: Fill one square of the world with a message, symbol, or commitment to share hope. Add that square to many others, enough to fill a wall with pieces of hope.

ABOUT THE HOPE WALL PROJECT

I worry about the world.

I worry about what our kids are hearing, seeing, and experiencing about the world, and what they must be imagining about their futures.

When they walk into their schools this year, I want them to be met by messages of hope, beauty, and commitment to make things better where we can.

The opposite of sadness may be joy, but the antidote to sadness must be hope.

THE BUCKET AND FRIENDS BOOKS

I wrote the Bucket books as a tool for young people growing up in a difficult world. Each book is linked to an impactful lesson from my own teaching for readers and classrooms to do.

Bucket and Friends Save (part of) the World with a Wall follows a group of friends who realize that the wall where kids sit when they’re too upset to go to recess (that they name the Sad Wall) is being used more. Bucket and their friends start adding pieces of beauty, hope, and evidence of good deeds done, reflected by some sort of image on a square of paper, to the wall. Soon, other classmates and whole classes are adding to the wall as well, highlighting all the good that can happen when we all do a small part.
